Sometimes things go wrong, though - maybe both Bontus get Thought Erasured. This can win games out of nowhere count your damage before you drop the croc, and remember that each Devil will be doing 5+ damage extra if you sac all your lands too.

Then, the big plays - at 5 mana, you can drop Bontu for a hand refill (Chandra's two free bodies are great here too), and a chunk of damage from your Celebrants and Devils.

The passive damage from Celebrants and Corpse Knights doesn't get effected by them whatsoever, and if you have Mayhem Devils on the field, they aren't entirely useless you can always just use their pings to kill themselves. More broadly regarding Leylines - they are the main reason I cut Butcher and Judith in the first place, but facing an enemy Combustion/Sanctity is not really a problem in this variant. ] is there to put the fear into Esper, and to ruin RDW's whole life. Hero of Precinct One is a backup token generator/Shock magnet. This also makes ] a reasonably viable choice - a 3/3 for 4 mana after the two elementals explode. The fact that the two hasty 1/1s cost nothing and sacrifice themselves at the end of the turn automatically, means that every ], ] and ] will deal 2 damage if a Chandra is out. This card is INCREDIBLE for the Aristocrats playstyle - playing her on curve after a Priest can be a very powerful swing, and she enables cards that had been mostly passed over in WAR. They felt bad off the top of the deck in the mid/late game when you're looking to close out a win.īut then, along came ].

Running junk one-drops like ] helped, but it always came across as counterintuitive that a value oriented card like Priest would rely so heavily on 1-drops. Priest was slow, and getting two bodies on demand could sometimes be easier said than done. In WAR, I was not a fan of ] in this deck - I ran a far more aggressive deck with ], ] and ] instead. So uh, I guess I'll give a rundown of my choices here. So, if anyone's been finding success with a "kill your own dorks" deck of any sort, I wouldn't mind hearing about it. I'd like to just, touch base on the archetype, see how other people are playing it, and start a fairly broad discussion rather than hone in on Mardu. I personally reckon Mardu is still the right choice, and I'll post the current deck I've been working with - but, I could also see the case for an Abzan or Jund Aristocrats these days.

The general consensus seemed to be that Mardu was the right choice for an Aristocrats style deck - shout out to u/AcrobaticPersonality for their excellent analysis of past threads and tournament appearances. So, there's been heaps of discussion about the Aristocrats archetype here, particularly since War of the Spark revealed Cruel Celebrant.
